Part tragedy, part mystery, Frances’s second novel is built around the rarely explored worlds of BC firefighting pilots and accident investigation. Call for Jurors: Crime Writers of Canada 2024 Awards of Excellence

Crime Writers Canada (CWC) is recruiting 30 jurors and 5 alternate jurors who are passionate and willing to contribute to the success of the Awards of Excellence (AE). We are seeking a diverse pool of crime/mystery enthusiasts to ensure broad linguistic, cultural, ethnic, gender identity and geographic representation from across Canada.

Sitting on a 3-panel team, the judges begin their adjudication process in November and end with the selection of the AE finalists in ten (10) categories. The winners will be announced in May 2024.

NOTE: Starting this year, all submissions will be received in digital format.

For the first time, the festival is offering sliding scale pricing, with a free option, for all virtual events and for the five in-person events taking place at Langham Court Theatre.

The festival is Vancouver Island’s largest, and liveliest, celebration of books and book lovers. With a focus on regional authors, the festival brings together emerging and established writers of poetry and prose for five days of readings and conversation.

Gabriola Library Writers Open Mic Author Reading: Walking the Camino; On Earth as It Is

Join author Maryanna Gabriel as she presents her book Walking the Camino; On Earth as It Is, the story of her solo 800-kilometre pilgrimage on the Camino in Spain, the challenges she faced and the obstacles she overcame. Gabriel is an artist and author who works from her studio on Salt Spring Island. Walking the Camino was the second-place winner of the Pottersfield Prize for Creative Nonfiction.
