2024 SCWES Book Contest

Submissions open February 1, 2024

The Sunshine Coast Writers and Editors Society Book Contest is open to both traditionally and self-published authors. A first-prize winner in each genre will be announced at the Art & Words Festival, Aug. 22-25, Gibsons Public Market, with a $100 prize for each first-place winner for Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Children’s/YA, Illustrated/Graphic Novel, Indigenous Voices, Diverse Voices and Sunshine Coast Voices.

Summer Writers Residency – Summer 2024

Banff Centre’s Summer Writers residency will provide writers space for the creative exploration of their writing practice. This 12-day self-directed residency offers the opportunity to work away from the constraints of everyday life. Delve deep into your creative project and take advantage of the artistic community of your peers around you.

The program provides optional opportunities for consultations with mentors, public readings, and group sessions led by guest mentors that allow creators to explore techniques, aspects, and devices that you may find useful in your practice.

North Shore Writers’ Association Annual Writing Contest

Submission deadline: March 15

In its 28th year, the contest champions local and national literary talent, with cash prizes given in the categories of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Winners will be announced during the North Shore Writers’ Festival in April.

Fall Writing Retreat

It’s not too early to plan for the fall! Gail Anderson-Dargatz hosts a week-long writing retreat at the Sorrento Centre in Sorrento, BC from October 6 to 11, 2024. It’s a perfect writing getaway both for writers in the Shuswap and Thompson–Okanagan regions and for those who are visiting the beautiful landscape found in so much of Gail’s writing.
