Join Kelowna-based cyclist Meaghan Hackinen for an evening of Bicycle Touring Adventures! Meaghan will read from her critically-acclaimed travel memoir, “South Away: The Pacific Coast on Two Wheels”, share stories from long-distance tours across Canada, the US, Mexico and Europe, and give insights into what it’s like to compete at the pointy end in ultra-endurance bikepack races like the Trans Am, the Transcontinental, and BC Epic 1000. There will be time for author Q&A and book signing. Books available for purchase.

Wildfire Fundraiser at Word Vancouver

Federation of BC Writers, Real Vancouver Writers Series, Sunshine Coast Writers Fest, Surrey International Writers Conference, Vancouver Writers Fest, Whistler Writers Fest, and Word Vancouver have come together to raise awareness and funds to support those impacted by the wildfires devastating BC.

The event will feature readings and reflections from Claudia Cornwall, Renée Sarojini Saklikar, and Frances Peck (authors whose work speaks directly to BC fires), as well as chances to share together, and prizes for those who donate. Come join us for this extraordinary collaborative event as we affirm the power of words to help, to heal, and to connect with each other.

Canadian Publishing Veterans Launch New Press: Leigh Nash, Andrew Faulkner, and Debby de Groot are proud to announce an exciting new publishing venture. Assembly Press will be a boutique publishing house, designed to be independent, inclusive, and incisive, and will publish first-class fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. The first list is scheduled for Spring 2024, and distribution deals are already in place including PGC in Canada.

Gabriel is an artist and author who works from her studio on Salt Spring Island. Walking the Camino was the second-place winner of the Pottersfield Prize for Creative Nonfiction.
