Book Club Reading: Tales & Lies My Baba Told Me

On Ukrainian Independence Day, author Jennie Tschoban joins the Gibsons Library Book Club to discuss her book. Jennie was four when her family fled their Ukrainian home in World War II, trekking through Europe and spending years in a Displaced Persons Camp before emigrating to Canada. In her sixties, she moved to Gibsons to “nanny” her daughter’s two kids. Tales & Lies, “narrated by my grandson,” is a memoir of the crazy challenges and tender moments in the relationships between a Ukrainian Baba and her family’s very different generations.

Writers, readers and fans of the literary arts are needed to volunteer at Western Canada’s largest free literary arts festival, featuring thought-provoking readings, panels, and workshops, wonderful local exhibitors, and a welcoming and inclusive community of literary and literacy fans.

Volunteers will take home free books and magazines, meet a diverse, like-minded community of writers, illustrators, and book-lovers, enjoy delicious snacks and beverages, and receive a Reference Letter or Volunteer Certificate of Hours upon request.
